Resolution for 20##. How aware are you of your driving habits?

Awareness is defined in my dictionary as possessing knowledge of some fact or action. It has a synonym which is conscience.  Conscience is defined as the activity or faculty by which distinctions are made between right and wrong in one’s own conduct and character.  I’m finished with the English lesson.

One thing that the dictionary doesn’t say, but is implied, is that awareness has finite limitations in that it only exists when you purpose it in your life.  This is especially important to those of us that do anything associated with risk (pretty much everything after getting out of bed)!

The other thing that is very important to understand is that your personal awareness is ONLY under your personal control.  Someone else can try to help you be aware but you have to do it for yourself.

The consequences of not maintaining your awareness sharply focused when driving are very well defined.  The numerous statistics that document the horrible death and injury numbers associated with traffic crashes can be easily found with any search of the internet or by just watching the local news.

As we get ready to enter a new year in our lives, why not make a resolution to raise your driving awareness consciously and constantly as a driver or passenger?  As Yoda, the Jedi Master says “Do or Do Not, there IS no try”.

Who knows what family tragedy you will avoid?
